Mortgage Rates Commentary 7 May 2010

Mortgage Rates

ANZ and National Bank have increased their short to mid-term fixed interest rates.

ANZ has bumped up its one, 18-month and two-year rates by 25, 16 and 10 points respectively.  These rates are all now at least 10 basis points above the medians for our main banks.

National Bank increased its six-month and one-year rates by 30 basis points and its 18-month and two-year rates went up by 29 and 10 points respectively.  These rates are too now above the other major banks, excluding its new six-month rate which is now in line with ASB's.

ANZ and National Bank last made changes to these rates at the end of last year.

Westpac has also moved rates today with a 20 basis point increase to its six-month, one and two-year rates.  Its one-year capped rate also rose 20 points to 6.75%.
