Mortgage Rates Commentary 4 August 2009

Mortgage Rates

Kiwibank yesterday announced it was changing its approach to low equity premiums.  We have a bit more on that here.  But a couple of thoughts to ponder are whether this is the first, albeit, tentative shot to be fired in traditional spring home loan battle?  The other is to ask whether banks will run their traditional Spring home loan campaigns this year?

On the more economic side of the news is today's cash rate announcement out of Australia.  A decision is due late this afternoon and the expectations are that the RBA will hold its cash rate at 3%.  Commentators will be watching this announcement closely as it may impact on wholesale rates in the New Zealand market.

Over at mortgagerates.co.nz we have our weekly wrap of what the experts are predicting interest rates will do.  Read the article and access all the reports here.
