Mortgage Rates

Home loan rates haven’t moved since the end of June now, and there is no real sign of much change in the short term. BNZ's Tony Alexander notes, in his Weekly Overview, wholesale rates have increased in the past week, but not enought to push up home loan rates.

The topic dominating the headlines is the increasingly politicised debate over rates charged by the big banks and their margins. The three left-leaning political parties, Labour, the Greens and the Progressive Party, are planning an enquiry into bank rate after Parliament's Finance and Expenditure Select Committee voted against a similar enquiry a few weeks ago.
