ANZ to refuse handwritten applications

ANZ to refuse handwritten applications

Mortgage Rates

The rule will apply from September 1.

A spokesman said it would only apply to brokers because non-broker home loans applications were done with the help of an ANZ staff member.

“In reality, only a small number of applications are handwritten, but often the information can be difficult to decipher, creating a reduction in service levels and an increased risk that incorrect details will be drawn from it.”

Jenny Campbell, chief executive of the Mortgage Supply Co, said it would help to improve turnaround times on applications.

“It will save them trying to decipher chicken-scratch handwriting and mistakes when people can’t decipher someone’s writing.”

She said most brokers should be producing their application forms on a computer, anyway, except in emergency situations.

“It’s taking it up a level of professionalism.”
