|
Your Mortgage matters: Will the Reserve Bank agree with the market next week?
It has been a quiet week on the interest rate front as we head into next week's official cash rate announcement and the latest Monetary Policy Statement from the Reserve Bank. Our survey of economists shows all, bar one, are expecting another 25 basis point hike next week so there will be a flurry of changes to the variable home loan rates on offer.
However, the economists are undecided on when the next hike after that will be. Some are picking July and others have put it back a little.
The general theme, which is supported by the market, is that interest rates will rise more slowly than expected. We will find out on Thursday if the Reserve Bank agrees with this view.
The upshot of the current situation is that home loan rates are not likely to rise as quickly as previously forecast. However, don't be complacent as they will still rise.
Because the economic news hasn't panned out as expected we have seen a pull back in rates and this provides a good opportunity to consider fixing for two or three years. You can check, compare and sort home loan rates at mortgagerates.co.nz
We have had some changes tonight from ASB and Kiwibank which are detailed in our daily commentary here.
Mortgage Rates Radio

Have a great weekend.
